Looking beautiful on your wedding day is about more than just your dress! If you want your skin to glow and shine bright, starting a strong skincare regimen in advance will uncover your best and brightest skin! Healthy skin also provides a great foundation for your makeup and will make your makeup last all night long. Many brides also choose to get skin treatments or procedures to further enhance their look. We love helping brides and their bridal parties look and feel their absolute best for the big day, so here are our top skincare tips for your wedding planning season!

When should I start planning my beauty regimen?
We recommend starting at least 6 months in advance to allow your skin to see the full benefits of a strong skincare regimen. Ideally, your skincare regimen should have the following: cleanser, growth factor or peptide product, hydration and/or moisturization, and the most important one of all--sunscreen! Our Skin for Life Boutique (located inside Village Dermatology) offers a wide variety of medical-grade products that can effectively treat acne, calm eczema, address hyperpigmentation and so much more. Our Skincare Experts are highly trained to build customized skincare regimens based on your goals, budget and lifestyle!
If you want to incorporate treatments such as CoolSculpting or filler, you may need to start 9 – 12 months out. We recommend scheduling a cosmetic and skincare consultation with our team (free for Engaged members!) as soon as you get engaged to map out a treatment plan customized to you and your skin’s needs.
What treatments or services do brides typically get?
Here are our most popular treatments among our brides and their bridal parties:
Botox: Primarily smooths out fine lines and wrinkles on the face, but it has a wide variety of uses (ask us about the Botox lip flip!). Typically takes 2 weeks to see full results and lasts for 3-4 months.
Filler: adds volume to the cheeks, lips and other parts of the face. Typically takes 2 weeks to see full results and can last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months depending on the filler.
CoolSculpting: Uses controlled cooling to safely and permanently eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Can take 3-6 months to see full results depending on your treatment plan.
Hydrafacial: gently exfoliates and deep cleans pores for a beautiful glow! Great to do as a series of treatments.
Microneedling: Harnesses your body’s natural healing power to deliver all over skin rejuvenation. Can improve the appearance of pores, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, tone, texture and more. Typically done as a series of treatments.
Dermaplaning: Gently exfoliates the face to remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells. Brides love this to help makeup go on smoother and help skincare products absorb deeper. Schedule a few days before a big event.
What should I do for my skin closer to my wedding date?
DE-STRESS: Wedding planning is sure to bring its challenges, but try to manage stress as much as possible leading up to your big day. Stress can cause breakouts and can dry out or aggravate the skin.
SLEEP: There’s a reason why it’s called beauty sleep. You’re bound to get pre-wedding nerves leading up to the big day, but getting a full night’s rest is key to looking refreshed and awake. Lack of sleep can cause skin dullness, dehydration and under-eye puffiness.
DON’T EXPERIMENT: Now is not the time to try that new chemical peel! Avoid using new products that your skin is not familiar with to prevent breakouts or rashes. It’s sure to be a busy time, but do your best to maintain your normal skincare routine morning and night. It’s a great way to set the tone for the day or to help unwind and reset at night.
AVOID THE SUN: We’re a dermatologist office, so we think you should avoid the sun anyway 😉 but avoid the sun especially before your big day! You do not want to run the risk of sunburn and looking red in your photos. If you want that sunkissed glow, we recommend getting an airbrush spray tan a day or two before to allow time to set and rinse off.
MAKEUP: If you are doing your makeup the day of:
Apply a lightweight moisturizer or makeup primer first to create a smooth, hydrated base.
Avoid using foundation with SPF as this can cause flashback and wash you out in flash photography.
Use waterproof mascara or opt for lash extensions in case of tears!
Set your makeup in place with a translucent setting powder to reduce shininess and make makeup last all night.
Test run your makeup before the big day and take a few photos with and without flash to make sure you are happy with your look.
We carry Trish McEvoy makeup in our Skin for Life Boutique to help you achieve an elegant and elevated makeup look!
