How Do I Budget for Wedding Florals?

Typically, what is one of the first things that comes to mind when you visualize your wedding? Florals!! Wedding florals can have a big impact on the overall look and feel of your day. From bouquets, centerpieces, cake flowers, and all the way to floral chandeliers and arches, there are so many unique ways to incorporate florals into your wedding day, depending on your own personal style. So, you might be wondering, how do I even begin to budget for wedding florals?? We got some insight from Engaged Wedding Library Vendor, Susan Milner Design, and here is a summary of what she had to share!

Factors that Influence the Cost of Florals

Wedding Florals are very detailed design plans that encompass many variables and are specifically customized to the vision and needs of the couple for whom they are created. Because of this, generalizing floral pricing is almost impossible. However, there are a few guidelines that are a good place to start! The number of bouquets/centerpieces/floral items needed, the type of flowers used- Standard or Premium Blooms, elaborate designs or installations needed, venue- 1 or 2 venues and proximity of venue, which affects delivery and setup costs. There are other factors that can affect pricing florals, but these are the main ones that will better equip you for planning your budget!

Wild Things

Keep in mind that each florist may have their own pricing structure, so it's essential to discuss your needs and budget during the initial consultation.

Tight Budget?

A great option is to request a pickup order from your florist! This allows you to have all of the “Personal Florals” (bouquets & boutonnieres, corsages, etc.) and save on the delivery and takedown charges. A ‘Personal Florals Only’ pickup order can typically run around $1000.00 to $1500.00, depending on your florist and the size of the wedding party.

More to Consider

Often, couples will ask for “just candles and greenery” centerpieces or “a lot of greenery” in the florals to save money. While a centerpiece of candles and greenery is probably the most economical design choice, the greenery still costs money to order and the candles must be replenished and the vases the candles are in must be cleaned between uses. All of those things factor into the cost for a “just candles and greenery” centerpiece!

“Installations” such as arches, hanging designs, floral rings/chandeliers are more expensive because they not only require a lot of materials to create, but they are labor intensive to setup and takedown. They often can only be done on-site, adding to the level of difficulty.

For anything other than a pickup order- vases, containers, candles, candlesticks, votives, pedestals, urns, framework for arches, floral chandeliers, etc. would be provided upon delivery and typically are included in your florist’s pricing.

Be Straight Forward

The best advice we can give is to be candid and forthright with your florist about your budget and the florals that are most important to you. Then, trust them to “work their magic” using their experience and expertise to create beauty beyond your wildest dreams!
